Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) has hired the co-founders of artificial intelligence startup Character.AI and will license the startup’s large language models.
Noam Shazeer, who co-founded Character.AI and was its Chief Executive Officer, will rejoin Google, along with co-founder Daniel De Freitas, along with a few other employees of the firm.
In turn, Character.AI’s General Counsel Dominic Perella will become the interim CEO, TechCrunch reported.
It was reported last month that Character.AI had held talks with Google and a few other tech companies about research partnerships.
Character.AI has raised more than $150M in funding from venture capital firms, such as Andreessen Horowitz, to create AI chatbots that encompass anime characters, game characters and more.
