‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ surpasses $1B worldwide
Disney’s (NYSE:DIS) Marvel Studios hit “Deadpool & Wolverine” has surpassed $1 billion worldwide. The Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman starrer is the only second R-rated movie to reach $1 billion, following 2019’s “Joker.”
The film, directed by Shawn Levy, remained the highest-grossing movie in North America for a third straight week with $54.2 million in ticket sales.
In just three weeks, “Deadpool & Wolverine” has become one of the most profitable Marvel releases, trailing behind only Disney’s Pixar’s “Inside Out 2.”
“Deadpool & Wolverine” was closely followed by Blake Lively’s “It Ends With Us,” which blew away expectations with a $50 million debut.
While Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively dominated the box-office, the weekend also featured an expensive dud. “Borderlands,” the long delayed $120 million video game adaption directed by Eli Roth, only garnered $8.8 million for Lionsgate.
Neon’s “Cuckoo,” a German Alps-set horror film by filmmaker Tilman Singer, collected $3 million.
Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Comscore. Final domestic figures will be released Monday.
