Microsoft plans to invest $1.3B in Mexico to bolster AI
Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) plans to invest $1.3B in Mexico over the next three years to bolster its artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure as well as promote digital and AI skills.
The money will be directed to improving connectivity and AI technology for small- and medium-sized businesses, Microsoft said. The company hopes to reach 30,000 such businesses in Mexico over the next few years. It also seeks to train up to 5 million residents through the Artificial Intelligence National Skills Initiative.
“It’s great to be back in Mexico City, where the new investments we’re making in AI infrastructure and skilling will help ensure people and organizations across Mexico realize the benefits of this technology shift,” Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said in a post on X on Tuesday.
“This is very good news for our country!,” said Marcelo Ebrard, Mexico’s incoming economic minister, in a post on X.
Microsoft has invested heavily in AI initiatives across the globe. Over the past year, it has announced a $3.5B investment in Germany, a $5B investment in Australia and New Zealand, and a $3.2B investment in the UK.
