Monday – September 30
- Volatility watch – Options trading volume is elevated on Cassava Sciences (SAVA) and ProKidney (PROK). The most overbought stocks per their 14-day relative strength index include Tectonic Therapeutic (TECX), Capricor Therapeutics (CAPR), and American Healthcare REIT (AHR). The most oversold stocks per their 14-day Relative Strength Index include International Battery Metals (OTCPK:IBATF), Autozi Internet Technology Global (AZI), and Target Hospitality (TH). Short interest is elevated on SoundHound AI (SOUN) and Plug Power (PLUG).
- Earnings watch – Notable companies due to report include Carnival (CCL) (CUK).
- All week – A large strike at East Coast ports could begin on October 1 unless a new contract is approved by the International Longshoremen’s Association. As many as 36 East Coast and Gulf Coast ports could be impacted to threaten supply chains ahead of the holiday season.
- All week – The start of the sale of trucking giant Yellow’s remaining properties could impact trucking stocks such as Saia (SAIA), Old Dominion Freight Line (ODFL), Knight-Swift Transportation (KNX), and Heartland Express (HTLD).
- All day – Notable investor events include ResMed’s (RMD) Investor Day, EnerSys’ (ENS) update on its lithium cell factory, and Affirm Holdings’ (AFRM) fireside chat with its CFO and COO.
- All day – A trial begins in Colorado with the state looking to block the merger of Albertsons Companies (ACI) and Kroger (KR). Several other lawsuits surrounding the merger are being heard across the U.S.
- All day – REGENXBIO (RGNX), Dyne Therapeutics (DYN), Carisma Therapeutics (CARM), and Editas Medicine (EDIT) are some of the companies scheduled to participate at the two-day Chardan Genetic Medicines Conference.
- 1:00 p.m. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell will speak before the National Association for Business Economics Annual Meeting on “Finding Harmony in the Noise: Transitioning to a New Normal.”
Tuesday – October 1
- Earnings watch – Notable companies due to report include Nike (NKE), Paychex (PAYX), McCormick & Company (MKC), Lamb Weston (LW), and Cal-Maine Foods (CALM).
- All day – Key data reports due to arrive during the first few days of the week include updates on deliveries from Tesla (TSLA), Nio (NIO), XPeng (XPEV), Rivian Automotive (RIVN), Li Auto (LI), ZEEKR Intelligent (ZK), and Lucid Group (LCID). Quarterly sales reports from General Motors (GM), Ford Motor (F), and Toyota (TM) will also be closely watched. Investors will also monitor the monthly Macau gross gaming revenue report, the monthly update on Class 8 truck orders, firearm background check data from the FBI, and discount broker DARTs reports.
- All day – Notable investor events include Harmony Biosciences (HRMY) holding its Investor Day event, and Apollo Global Management’s (APO) Investor Day. FedEx (FDX) will hold its Forward Service Provider Summit, which will include Motive and Workhorse Group (WKHS) as exhibitors.
- All day – Curbline will start trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol CURB after spinning off from SITE Centers (SITC).
- All day – South Bow Corporation will begin trading as a standalone company after spinning off from TC Energy (TRP:CA).
- All day – Super Micro Computer (SMCI) will begin trading on a split-adjusted basis after completing its 10-for-1 stock split.
- All day – Shopify (SHOP) President Harley Finkelstein will be one of the participants at the three-day Elevate Festival in Toronto.
- All day – Infinera Corporation (INFN) will hold a special meeting to allow shareholders to vote on the acquisition offer from Nokia (NOK).
- 11:10 a.m. Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank President Raphael Bostic to moderate session with Federal Reserve Board Governor Lisa Cook before the “Technology-Enabled Disruption: Implications of AI, Big Data, and Remote Work” conference organized by the Federal Reserve Banks of Atlanta, Boston and Richmond.
- 4:15 p.m. Nike (NKE) will hold its earnings call. The company frequently issues its guidance during the call and provides an in-depth outlook by region and product type. The update from management on trends in China will also be closely watched by other consumer companies with a higher exposure to the nation, including Starbucks (SBUX), Estee Lauder (EL), and Skechers (SKX).
Wednesday – October 2
- Earnings watch – Notable companies due to report include Levi Strauss (LEVI), RPM International (RPM) and Conagra Brands (CAG).
- All day – The OPEC+ Joint Ministerial Monitoring Committee will hold a meeting via video conference.
- All day – Desktop Metal (DM) will hold a special shareholder meeting to vote on the acquisition offer from Nano Dimension (NNDM).
- All day – Apellis Pharmaceuticals (APLS), EyePoint Pharmaceuticals (EYPT), and Adverum Biotechnologies (ADVM) are some of the companies participating at the UBS Ophthalmology Day event.
- 12:00 p.m. TotalEnergies SE (TTE) will give a strategy update at a high-profile Investor Day event.
Thursday – October 3
- Earnings watch – Notable companies due to report include Constellation Brands (STZ).
- All day – Notable investor events include Nordson Corporation’s (NDSN) Investor Day. During the event, members of the Nordson senior management team will share an overview of the business and progress on the Ascend Strategy, including next steps in the company’s growth strategy.
- All day – Samsung (OTCPK:SSNLF) will hold its SDC24 developers conference in San Jose. The tech giant is expected to introduce its latest software, services, and platforms. Several sessions will go over Samsung’s AI innovations.
- 9:40 a.m. Minneapolis Federal Reserve Bank President Neel Kashkari will participate in the hybrid “Featuring Frontier Research to Enhance Economic Opportunity and Inclusive Growth” 2024 Research Conference.
Friday – October 4
- 8:30 a.m. The September Jobs Report will be released. Economists forecast 140K job additions for the month and for the unemployment rate to stay at 4.2%.
