OpenAI unveils new tools for devs to build AI models, including Realtime API
OpenAI, the generative artificial intelligence startup backed by Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), showed off new tools on Tuesday to make it easier for developers to build artificial intelligence models, including what the company is calling a “Realtime API.”
The Realtime API, which is available immediately, will let developers create AI-based speech-to-speech experiences inside their apps via one set of instructions.
“From language apps and educational software to customer support experiences, developers have already been leveraging voice experiences to connect with their users,” OpenAI wrote in a post. “Now with the Realtime API and soon with audio in the Chat Completions API, developers no longer have to stitch together multiple models to power these experiences. Instead, you can build natural conversational experiences with a single API call.”
OpenAI is on track to generate $3.7B in revenue this year, which includes revenue related to its APIs, or application programming interface.
OpenAI, which has gone through a number of executive departures lately, is said to be in the final stages of raising $6.5B in new funding that would value the company at $150B.
Investors in the round may include Japanese tech conglomerate SoftBank, and several other companies. Apple reportedly dropped out in recent days.
