Google advances AI reasoning abilities to challenge OpenAI: report
Google (NASDAQ:GOOG)(NASDAQ:GOOGL) researchers are busy developing artificial intelligence models capable of mimicking human reasoning, according to a report by Bloomberg.
Citing sources familiar with the issue, Google teams are building software capable of solving complex and multistep problems, the report said. The new technology utilizes “chain-of-thought prompting” which causes the software to sort through various responses and choose the best one before responding to a prompt.
Last month, Microsoft-backed (NASDAQ:MSFT) OpenAI introduced a new series of AI models designed for solving complex problems as well.
Called o1 and o1-mini, these new models can reason through complex tasks and solve harder problems than previous models in science, coding and math.
“We trained these models to spend more time thinking through problems before they respond, much like a person would,” OpenAI said when they were released on Sept. 12. “Through training, they learn to refine their thinking process, try different strategies, and recognize their mistakes.”
Google has already created AI models capable of solving complex math problems, as they achieved silver-medal standards earlier this summer at the International Mathematical Olympiad.
