Intel says open to clarify queries, after Chinese cyber group alleges security issue
Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) noted that security has long been a top priority for the company and it goes to great lengths to protect its customers, following a report that the Cybersecurity Association of China asked for a security review of the American chipmaker’s products sold in China.
“We look forward to working with the relevant officials on this matter to clarify any questions that may exist and demonstrate Intel’s deep commitment to the safety and security of our products,” said an Intel spokesperson in an emailed statement to Seeking Alpha.
Intel’s stock was up about 1% premarket on Thursday.
The CSAC, reportedly, made several allegations against Intel in a long post on its official WeChat account.
The organization cited China’s national security interests for its actions. The CSAC said, “it is recommended that a network security review is initiated on the products Intel sells in China, so as to effectively safeguard China’s national security and the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese consumers.”
The CSAC, which is an industry group and not a government body, has close relations with the Chinese state, and this could potentially trigger a security review from the Asian country’s cyberspace agency, the Cyberspace Administration of China, as according to the previous report.
