FAA opens new oversight review of Boeing operational safety processes

The Federal Aviation Administration said Friday it will open a new safety review into Boeing (NYSE:BA), as the FAA continues aggressive oversight of the company after January’s in-flight emergency.

The FAA said its new review Boeing’s (BA) continued operational safety processes “to ensure they meet FAA requirements and result in timely, accurate safety-related information for FAA use” and will focus on key areas such as response time, risk-assessment quality and resource allocation; the review is expected to take three months.

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Office of Inspector General recently criticized the FAA’s oversight of Boeing (BA), saying the agency does not have an effective system to oversee the company’s individual manufacturing facilities.

Separately, American Airlines reportedly has pulled from service a Boeing (BA) 787-9 Dreamliner after a witness claimed to see the plane’s engine ingest a cargo container on the taxiway at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport.
