Tesla to face probe by NHTSA over full self-driving crashes
Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) will be facing a probe by The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), after one of the carmaker’s vehicles with the full self-driving technology (FSD) struck a pedestrian.
NHTSA has opened a probe into 2.4 million Tesla (TSLA) vehicles.
The U.S. auto safety regulator’s Office of Defects Investigation said it has found four reports in which a Tesla (TSLA) vehicle, with FSD engaged, crashed after entering an area of reduced roadway visibility conditions.
In one such crash, the Tesla (TSLA) fatally struck a pedestrian
The ODI has started a preliminary evaluation into the firm’s FSD, and will assess the technology’s ability to detect and respond appropriately to reduced roadway visibility conditions, any updates or modifications from Tesla (TSLA) to the FSD system that may affect the performance of FSD in reduced roadway visibility conditions, and a few other issues.
Shares of the EV maker were down 0.86%, erasing earlier premarket gains.
