Disney names James Gorman as its next chairman, to announce new CEO in early 2026

Disney (NYSE:DIS) has named Morgan Stanley’s James Gorman as the next chairman of the media conglomerate, succeeding Mark Parker, who will be leaving after nine years of service, the company said in a statement Monday.

Gorman will relinquish his role as Morgan Stanley’s chairman at the end of this year and, effective January 2, join Disney’s board.

Gorman is also currently chairing the Board’s Succession Planning Committee at Disney, which is working to identify a suitable successor for top boss Bob Iger.

“A critical priority before us is to appoint a new CEO, which we now expect to announce in early 2026. This timing… will allow ample time for a successful transition before the conclusion of Bob Iger’s contract in December 2026,” Gorman said on Monday.
