OpenAI works with Lenfest Institute to develop GenAI solutions for newsrooms
- Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) and OpenAI announced a new collaboration today with the Lenfest Institute for Journalism to explore ways generative artificial intelligence can support the next era of reporting the news.
- The program will provide selected news outlets with grants to hire two-year AI fellows and OpenAI and Microsoft Azure credits to help these outlets experiment and develop AI tools. Chicago Public Media, Newsday, The Minnesota Star Tribune, The Philadelphia Inquirer and The Seattle Times were the first news outlets selected.
- “Through these fellowships—and by sharing results with the broader news industry—we will help empower local newsrooms to explore, implement and advocate for AI business solutions that uphold the highest ethical standards while strengthening their future prospects,” said Lenfest Institute CEO Jim Friedlich.
- This collaboration comes as AI startups such as Perplexity AI and OpenAI are facing copyright lawsuits by major news publishers.
