Apple unveils new iMac with M4 chip, Apple Intelligence
After teasing new Mac announcements last week, Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) unveiled an updated version of its iMac desktop on Monday, with the new M4 chip.
The all-in-one desktop computer is up to 1.7x faster for daily productivity, and up to 2.1x faster than the iMac with the M1 chips for tasks such as photo editing and gaming, Apple said. It comes with a 12MP Center Stage camera, a 24-inch Retina Display, up to four Thunderbolt 4 ports, 16GB of memory and is available in green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue and silver.
The most notable update to the iMac is the M4, which Apple introduced in May. The new chip has helped Apple usher in artificial intelligence to its devices, including the iPad.
“With M4 and Apple Intelligence, gorgeous new colors that pop in any space, an advanced 12MP Center Stage camera, and a new nano-texture glass display option, it’s a whole new era for iMac,” said John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering.
The company also unveiled new versions of the Magic Mouse, Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad, which all come with USB-C charging.
The new iMac starts at $1,299 and is available for pre-order today and is available for purchase on November 8.
Separately, Apple announced that Apple Intelligence is available today via iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.1.
Apple shares rose 1% in late morning trading on Monday.
