Nvidia to limit game streaming time on GeForce Now instead of hiking fees
Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) on Thursday announced some major changes to its cloud-based game streaming service GeForce Now, which includes limiting play time instead of increasing monthly fees for members.
The chipmaker renamed its existing Priority membership to Performance. The new Performance membership includes support for streaming up to 1440p resolution and ultrawide resolutions, along with members getting the option to save in-game graphics settings across streaming sessions.
The company said that all current Priority members would be automatically upgraded to Performance and can take advantage of the upgraded streaming experience starting Thursday.
However, Nvidia is also introducing a 100-hour monthly playtime cap for new Performance or Ultimate GeForce Now members starting on January 1, 2025.
GeForce Now is offering active paid members, as of Dec. 31, 2024, the ability to continue with unlimited playtime for a full year until January 2026.
“Up to 15 hours of unused playtime will automatically roll over to the next month for members, and additional hours can be purchased at $2.99 for 15 additional hours of Performance, or $5.99 for 15 additional Ultimate hours,” Nvidia added.
Nvidia is also offering a 25% discount on Ultimate and Performance day passes for a limited time.
