After weeks of speculation, Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) has officially launched its Gemini artificial intelligence chatbot on the App Store this week.
The app, of which the rollout has been quiet, is effectively the same version of Gemini that is already available on the Google app, but it does have access to Gemini Live, a voice and conversational feature similar to OpenAI’s voice mode. OpenAI is the maker of ChatGPT, which is routinely one of the top five apps in the App Store.
The launch of an official Gemini app is part of Google’s continued push to make AI ubiquitous. Late last month, Google announced that its Maps application would incorporate its Gemini AI chatbot, while its Waze and Google Earth apps would also get AI features.
Google shares were little changed in premarket trading.
