Meta to build $10B AI data center in Louisiana, to work with Entergy for energy needs
Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) said Wednesday it plans to spend $10B to build a 4M sq ft artificial intelligence data center in Louisiana, in what would be the company’s largest data center in the world.
To power the data center – which at its largest point will extend more than a mile from front to back – utility company Entergy (ETR) will add clean power plants to its system to meet growing power demands, including from the data center.
Meta (META) said it will match its electricity use with 100% clean and renewable energy, and will work with Entergy (ETR) to bring at least 1,500 MW of new renewable energy to the grid.
Meta (META) said earlier this week it is requesting proposals from nuclear energy developers in an attempt to harness nuclear energy for further AI data centers.
Entergy (ETR), which has two nuclear power plants in Louisiana, previously received legislative approval for investment in transmission and generation to serve Amazon’s upcoming cloud services facility in Mississippi.
