Classic meme stocks pop on cryptic tweet from Roaring Kitty
Shares of GameStop (NYSE:GME) rose more than 10% in Thursday afternoon trading after Keith Gill, the stock influencer known as Roaring Kitty, posted a cryptic image on social media site X, formerly known as Twitter. Shares of AMC Entertainment (AMC) also rose more than 6%.
GameStop (GME) shares were momentarily halted for volatility, but resumed trading shortly thereafter.
Gill, known for his cryptic posts, often uses social media platforms like YouTube and Reddit to disclose his trading positions. The influencer boasts a cult following among some investors.
The influencer gained popularity in 2021 after igniting a frenzy of activity in shares of GameStop (GME) which led to an unexpected surge in the struggling gaming retailer’s shares.
Other popular meme stocks include AMC (AMC) and technology firm Blackberry (BB) which have also seen their share prices jump after getting backed by an army of online investors.
