- Amazon’s (NASDAQ:AMZN) Zoox is expanding its fleet to Atlanta, with plans to introduce fully autonomous robotaxis to Georgia’s capital by this summer.
- The company plans to test its autonomous Toyota Highlander SUVs with a safety driver who will gather data before eventually going fully autonomous with vehicles retrofitted without a driver’s seat, steering wheel, or gas and brake pedals.
- Zoox currently operates a test fleet in San Francisco, Las Vegas, Miami, Austin, Seattle, and Los Angeles with public riders slated to begin using Zoox autonomous vehicles in Las Vegas and San Francisco later this year.
- By launching a test fleet in Atlanta, Zoox hopes to leverage the city’s varied weather conditions, congestion, traffic patterns, and diverse road conditions to rigorously test and refine its autonomous driving system.
