-President Trump has accused China of violating a preliminary trade agreement with the United States.
“I made a FAST DEAL with China in order to save them from what I thought was going to be a very bad situation, and I didn’t want to see that happen. Because of this deal, everything quickly stabilized and China got back to business as usual. Everybody was happy! That is the good news!!! The bad news is that China, perhaps not surprisingly to some, HAS TOTALLY VIOLATED ITS AGREEMENT WITH US. So much for being Mr. NICE GUY!” Trump said in post on Truth Social on Friday morning.
-Trump’s post came the morning after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in a TV interview that trade talks with China were “a bit stalled.”
“I think that given the magnitude of the talks, given the complexity, that this is going to require both leaders to weigh in with each other,” Bessent said in an interview with Fox News. “They have a very good relationship, and I am confident that the Chinese will come to the table when President Trump makes his preferences known.”
-Ford (NYSE:F) Executive Chairman Bill Ford that its new EV battery manufacturing plant in Marshall, Michigan, could be put in peril if Congress eliminates certain tax credits for EV battery producers.
“Politicians can agree or disagree about whether those things are desirable,” Ford said during an event in Michigan, according to Bloomberg. “But don’t change the rules once you’ve already made the investment, because that to me is just a question of fairness. And that’s unfair.”
-The CEO of AI developer Anthropic, Dario Amodei, said that AI adoption could lead to the elimination of 50% of entry-level, white collar jobs and raise the unemployment rate up to 20% within the next five to ten years.
“It’s eerie the extent to which the broader public and politicians, legislators, I don’t think, are fully aware of what’s going on,” Amodei said in an interview with CNN on Thursday. “We have to make sure that people have the ability to adapt, and that we adopt the right policies… but we have to act now. We can’t just sleepwalk into it.”
