Elon Musk pushed back against a recent New York Times report that claimed he regularly used ketamine and other drugs, calling the story inaccurate and misleading.
“I tried prescription ketamine a few years ago and said so on X, so this not even news. It helps for getting out of dark mental holes, but haven’t taken it since then,” Musk wrote on X, accusing the newspaper of “lying.”
The article alleged that Musk’s use of ketamine was more frequent than previously understood, and it also mentioned his occasional use of substances like Ecstasy and psychedelic mushrooms during the 2020 election cycle.
Musk, who had recently served as a key adviser to President Donald Trump on efforts to reduce federal spending, stepped away from his official role on Friday. However, he noted that he still intends to advise Trump informally moving forward.
When asked on Friday whether he was aware of Musk’s alleged drug use, Trump responded, “No, I wasn’t. I think he’s fantastic.”
