Disney’s (NYSE:DIS) Lilo & Stitch continues to hold the top spot at the domestic box office, bringing in an estimated $32.5 million during its third weekend in theaters, according to studio estimates compiled by Comscore.
While the live-action remake’s earnings dipped 47% from the prior week, the family-friendly movie has now amassed more than $335 million in cumulative domestic gross, solidifying its place as a major summer hit.
Coming in second was Ballerina, the latest action spin-off from Lionsgate (NYSE:LION), which debuted to a strong $25 million. The film, led by a new cast within the John Wick universe, had the weekend’s top Friday gross but softened through Sunday. Still, it marks a solid opening for the studio.
Rounding out the top three was Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, in its third week with $15 million, down 45%. Despite the drop, the Paramount (NASDAQ:PARA) tentpole has crossed $149 million domestically.
Sony’s (NYSE:SONY) Karate Kid: Legends took fourth place with $8.7 million, suffering a steep 57% decline in its second weekend. Meanwhile, Final Destination: Bloodlines earned $6.5 million, enough to grab fifth despite being in its fourth week. Its cumulative total now stands at $123.6 million.
A surprising standout was Focus Features’ The Phoenician Scheme, which surged into sixth place with $6.25 million, nearly matching the more established titles in just its second week. The film showed remarkable strength after opening in a limited 1,678 locations.
Smaller releases continued to show modest performances. A24’s Bring Her Back added $3.5 million, GKIDS’ Dan Da Dan: Evil Eye brought in $3.1 million, and Sinners held on in ninth with $2.9 million in its eighth week.
Thunderbolts, also from Disney (NYSE:DIS), rounded out the top 10 with $2.5 million, marking a significant fall from earlier highs, though its cumulative total reached $186 million after six weeks.
The overall top 10 films combined for an estimated $106 million, a respectable total in a transitional weekend ahead of several major late-June releases.
