Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) Web Services is working on revamping its artificial intelligence cloud service, Bedrock, in an effort to make it easier for customers to use and compete with rivals such as Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL), The Information reported.
AWS is working on strengthening the runtime of Bedrock, the news outlet added, citing a person familiar with the matter. It is also working on adding components to the runtime that would allow artificial intelligence models hosted on other clouds to run Bedrock, the person added.
The changes could be announced as soon as next month, The Information added.
A number of customers want to run their code on AWS and continue to use AI models from Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), OpenAI, and Google, the news outlet added, citing an executive at an AWS business partner.
Google Cloud Platform’s Vertex service competes with Bedrock.
Amazon did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Seeking Alpha.
Bedrock is a suite of tools that gives customers the ability to use foundation models with their own data to create the model they need at that particular time, without having to invest in servers. It was first introduced in April 2023 by Amazon CEO Andy Jassy in a letter to shareholders.
Bedrock currently works with Amazon Titan, the company’s own foundation model, as well as those created by stability.ai, AI21Labs and Anthropic.
In July 2023, an Amazon executive said AWS had “thousands” of customers using the Bedrock tools.
In February, generative AI startup Anthropic, which has taken investments from Amazon and Google, said its Claude 3.7 Sonnet model is available on the Anthropic API, Amazon Bedrock and Google Cloud’s Vertex AI.
