- Employees of generative artificial intelligence maker OpenAI sold $240M worth of shares in the company’s last funding round, The Information reported.
- That brings the total sold by employees to $3B since 2021, the news outlet added. For comparison purposes, SpaceX (SPACE) employees have sold a similar amount, The Information added, citing data from private markets company Caplight.
- SoftBank (OTCPK:SFTBY), which led the ChatGPT maker’s most recent funding round in April, has acquired nearly half of the current and former employee shares. In total, SoftBank has acquired $1.5B worth of OpenAI shares from current and former employees.
- OpenAI, which became the world’s most valuable startup after the April $40B founding round, is backed by Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) after a “multibillion” dollar investment in January 2023.
- OpenAI and SoftBank did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
