Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) announced an updated image-to-video ad feature, which lets marketers use AI to turn product pictures into multi-scene video ads, Bloomberg News reported.
The Facebook and Instagram parent noted that advertisers can upload up to 20 images to create the videos, which come with music and overlaid text, the report added.
The new ad features were revealed along with the Cannes Lions advertising festival, which is happening this week in France.
Meta did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Seeking Alpha.
The move is potentially part of the company’s efforts to move deeper into AI-generated ads and make them cheaper and simpler for marketers to create their messages.
Last year in May, Meta announced a feature that let advertisers use text prompts to create ad images, and in October 2024 unveiled features that enabled marketers to turn images into AI-generated GIFs for ads, the report noted.
The social media giant is also making a text-to-video tool for general consumers, called Movie Gen, that it launched for the first time last fall.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg has made AI a top priority as the company competes with rivals OpenAI, Alphabet’s (GOOG) (GOOGL) Google and Microsoft (MSFT) to develop AI models.
Last week, Meta announced a $14.3B investment in Scale AI, acquiring a 49% stake and valuing the San Francisco-based company at over $29B. A key aspect of the deal includes Scale CEO Alexandr Wang joining Meta to head its “superintelligence” team focused on artificial general intelligence.
