- The American Federation of Teachers, the second largest teachers union in the U.S., has partnered with Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), OpenAI, and Anthropic to launch the National Academy for AI Instruction.
- The three companies are providing $23M in funding for the initiative, which will provide access to free AI training and curriculum for AFT and United Federation of Teachers members.
- The program will initially be based at a facility in New York City, where the AFT is headquarted, in the fall, with plans to expand nationally. In five years, the aim is to reach 400,000 teachers.
- The initiative “will include workshops, online courses, and hands-on training sessions, ensuring that teachers are well-equipped to navigate an AI-driven future,” according to a news release.
- “Through scalable training modules, virtual learning environments and credential pathways, the program empowers a diverse range of educators to become confident leaders in AI instruction. In turn, these teachers will bring AI literacy, ethical reasoning and creative problem-solving into classrooms that might otherwise be left behind in the digital transformation.”
