Warner Bros.’ (NASDAQ:WBD) Superman retained the No. 1 spot at the domestic box office in its second weekend, pulling in an estimated $57.25 million from 4,275 theaters, bringing its domestic total to more than $235 million.
The James Gunn-directed reboot has now grossed more than $406.8 million globally, powered by strong international play and robust IMAX (NYSE:IMAX) turnout, according to studio estimates compiled by Comscore.
Universal’s (NASDAQ:CMCSA) Jurassic World Rebirth stayed strong in its third weekend, earning $23.4 million, lifting its tally to $276.2 million in the United States and Canada, and its global haul to $648 million.
Sony’s (NYSE:SONY) remake of I Know What You Did Last Summer delivered a solid opening in third place with $13 million, while Smurfs debuted in fourth with $11 million for Paramount (NASDAQ:PARA).
Rounding out the top five was F1 The Movie from Warner Bros. (NASDAQ:WBD) and Apple Original Films (NASDAQ:AAPL), still holding firm in its fourth frame with $9.6 million, pushing its domestic total to $153.6 million.
A24’s Eddington, directed by Ari Aster and featuring a star-studded cast, opened with a respectable $4.3 million, showing strong per-screen performance and buzz out of Cannes.
Overall, the weekend box office totaled approximately $128.7 million, according to Comscore, bringing the year-to-date total to $4.94 billion, a 15% gain over the same period in 2024.
Noteworthy indie and specialty releases included A24’s Sorry, Baby, which crossed the $1 million mark in just 80 locations, and SPC’s Don’t Let’s Go To The Dogs Tonight, which expanded to 307 theaters with a modest haul.
IMAX (NYSE:IMAX) also saw a strong global weekend, led by Superman and Japan’s record-breaking Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle. Next weekend, all eyes turn to The Fantastic Four: First Steps as it launches globally across 1,650 IMAX screens.
