Boeing (NYSE:BA) officially started production on its latest cargo aircraft, the 777-8 Freighter, The Seattle Times reported on Tuesday.
Originally unveiled at the White House in 2022, the 777-8F is designed to carry a revenue payload of 112.3 metric tonnes. At the time of the announcement, Qatar Airways was revealed as the launch customer with a firm order for 34 aircraft and options for an additional 16, bringing the potential deal value to $20 billion.
Boeing (NYSE:BA) initially aimed to deliver the first unit by 2027, but that schedule has since slipped by roughly a year, the report said.
According to Boeing (BA), the 777-8F will be the most fuel-efficient and cost-effective freighter in the 777X family, offering the lowest carbon dioxide emissions and per-tonne operating costs in its class.
