Poland’s Ministry of National Defense confirmed that Warsaw is preparing to secure a $4 billion U.S. loan guarantee to support the ongoing modernization of its armed forces. The initiative is part of a broader effort under rising regional tensions and Russia’s war in Ukraine, aimed at reinforcing NATO’s eastern defenses.

Since 2022, the United States has extended more than $11 billion in loans and guarantees to Poland, enabling the acquisition of advanced systems such as Patriot air-defense batteries, HIMARS rocket platforms and Apache attack helicopters. This financial backing has significantly accelerated Warsaw’s efforts to modernize its military capabilities.

Poland has also become NATO’s highest spender relative to GDP, budgeting 4.7 percent of gross domestic product for defense in 2025 and committing to increase that figure to 5 percent by 2026.
