Chinese regulators have summoned Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) representatives over alleged security risks related to its H20 artificial intelligence chips, according to a statement on its website.
The Cyberspace Administration of China said the chips had been exposed to serious security issues.
The regulator said it has summoned and interviewed Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) on July 31 and requested the US company to “explain the backdoor security risks associated with its H20 computing chips sold to China and submit relevant supporting documentation.”
White House national economic adviser Kevin Hassett said Wednesday the Trump administration allowed Nvidia’s (NASDAQ:NVDA) H20 AI chip shipments to China in a strategic move to maintain the U.S. lead in advanced chip development.
The H20 is the most advanced chip Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) can legally offer in China, though it has reduced computing power compared to global versions due to previous export restrictions under both the Trump and Biden administrations.
