Hindenburg founder Nate Anderson responded to claims that were made by Nikola founder Trevor Milton during an interview with Tucker Carlson.
Anderson, known for uncovering financial scams, said the claim that Hindenburg paid employees for inside information is “patently absurd.” The key whistleblower discussed in the interview was only briefly a contractor for Milton, Anderson said.
“He was so horrified by what he viewed as Milton’s repeated false claims that he did a tremendous amount of research on his own, unraveling numerous additional suspected lies that Milton peddled to the investing public,” Anderson posted on social media site X on Wednesday.
Anderson also denied claims that he coordinated with the media or the Dept. of Justice.
“There was ample evidence that Milton misstated numerous aspects of his business, as the company itself later acknowledged,” Anderson wrote.
Milton, who was convicted of fraud, was pardoned earlier this year by President Donald Trump. Milton was sentenced to four years in prison in 2023 after a federal jury found him guilty of lying about Nikola’s (OTC:NKLAQ) technology, including the claim that the company had built its own electric truck.
Nikola filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in February, saying it was exploring a sale of its assets.
“In short, Tucker, I highly suggest you actually vet the people you welcome onto your platform,” Anderson added in his X post. “If you find yourself staring, mouth agape at your interviewee, repeatedly saying ‘Wow! This is unbelievable!’ it may in fact be because it’s unbelievable.”
