A Condor flight from Greece to Germany was forced to divert to southern Italy over the weekend after one of its engines malfunctioned shortly after takeoff, Simple Flying reported Monday.
Flight DE3665, a Boeing (NYSE:BA) 757-300 carrying 273 passengers and eight crew, departed Corfu for Düsseldorf on Saturday evening. According to flight-tracking data, the jet climbed to about 8,000 feet before its right-hand engine began emitting flames and loud bangs. The crew shut the engine down and diverted safely to Brindisi, where the aircraft landed without further incident.

Because the diversion occurred late in the evening, passengers were unable to continue their journey until Sunday morning. Limited hotel availability in Brindisi meant some travelers had to spend the night in the airport, Simple Flying reported.
