HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said that CDC Director Susan Monarez was fired from that position on Wednesday in part because she wasn’t following President Trump’s agenda.
“We need to look at the priorities of the agency, if there’s really a deeply, deeply embedded I would say malaise at the agency. We need strong leadership that will go in there and be able to execute on President Trump’s broad ambitions,” the secretary said Thursday morning on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends.”
RFK Jr. added that while the agency is “in trouble, we’re fixing it.”
Problems at the CDC RFK Jr. cited were mostly related to its handling of Covid-19. He accused the agency of issuing misinformation, getting testing, social distancing, and masks wrong, and causing harm to children by closing schools.
Separately, RFK Jr. will testify before the Senate Finance Committee on Sept. 4 to discuss the president’s health care agenda.
