Elon Musk’s generative artificial intelligence company xAI has sued a former employee, alleging that they took proprietary information to competitor OpenAI, Reuters reported.
According to the complaint, which was filed in California, xAI alleged that Xuechen Li took “cutting-edge AI technologies with features superior to those offered by ChatGPT” when he left the Musk-led xAI, the news outlet added. He started at OpenAI this month. OpenAI is not listed as a defendant in the filing, Reuters added.
The maker of the Grok chatbot, xAI is asking for monetary damages and disallowing Li’s move to OpenAI.
None of Li, xAI or OpenAI responded to a request for comment from Seeking Alpha.
The dispute over the former xAI employee is the latest battle between Musk and OpenAI. Musk, who co-founded OpenAI in 2015, along with CEO Sam Altman and Greg Brockman, left the company in 2018.
Musk has sued Microsoft-backed company and Altman last year for straying from its founding mission. Following that, OpenAI counter-sued Musk earlier this year.
Aside from running xAI, Musk is also the head of Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA), SpaceX and several other companies.
