Microsoft signs $6.2B deal with Nscale Global, Aker to rent AI infrastructure in Norway

  • Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) reportedly signed on Wednesday a binding five-year customer agreement with Nscale Global and Aker to rent hyperscale AI infrastructure in Norway.
  • The software maker will pay $6.2 billion to access high-performance AI compute capacity in Norway, Nscale Global highlighted in its press release.
  • The British data center company Nscale Global and Norwegian investment company Aker are expected to deliver hyperscale AI infrastructure in staged deployments starting in 2026 at Narvik, Northern Norway.
  • The tech giant on Tuesday said it will invest $30B in the U.K. over the next four years to boost its artificial intelligence prowess.
  • “This marks the largest financial commitment we’ve ever made in the UK,” Microsoft Vice Chair and President Brad Smith wrote in a blog post. “It includes $15 billion in capital expenditures to build out the UK’s cloud and AI infrastructure. This investment will enable us to build the country’s largest supercomputer — with more than 23,000 advanced GPUs — in partnership with Nscale.”
  • Last week, the software giant inked an $17.4 billion agreement with Nebius Group (NBIS) for artificial intelligence infrastructure over the next five years.
