Boeing (NYSE:BA) said Monday it received an order from Uzbekistan Airways for as many as 22 of planemaker’s 787 Dreamliner jets, which would mark the airline’s largest-ever purchase.
Uzbekistan Airways said its purchase of 14 787-9 airplanes, with options for eight more of the jets, will modernize its widebody fleet, allowing it to expand its international routes to the U.S. and other long-haul destinations.
The airline’s current fleet of 787-8 airplanes connects markets in Europe, Asia and the U.S., including a direct flight to New York City.
The deal is the first of several expected to be unveiled in the coming days as heads of state meet in New York for the United Nations General Assembly, and as plane orders with Boeing (NYSE:BA) have featured prominently in President Trump’s trade negotiations, with Turkey among the countries preparing large deals.
