Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) will stream Major League Baseball’s Opening Day game between the New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants next year, according to a Thursday report by The Athletic, citing sources.
The report said as part of the new three-year agreement between the MLB and the streaming giant, the opening game at San Francisco will be Netflix’s first exclusive stream and will kick off the 2026 season.
The announcement is expected to be made in the coming weeks.
The baseball league divided ESPN’s old package of Sunday Night Baseball, the Home Run Derby, and the playoffs between Netflix and NBC/Peacock (NASDAQ:CMCSA) after the Disney-owned sports network (DIS) chose to stay out of the final three years of a deal in which it was set to pay $550M on average.
Sources told the sports news outlet the exact figures for the MLB-Netflix and MLB-NBC/Peacock three-year deals are not yet known but are expected to be in the $225M to $250M per season range.
