Boeing secures sizable orders from Turkish Airlines, Norwegian Air

Boeing (NYSE:BA) +0.7% pre-market Friday after announcing aircraft orders from Turkish Airlines and Norwegian Air Shuttle, as the planemaker attempts to reset its business.

Boeing (NYSE:BA) said Turkish Airlines placed an order for as many as 75 787 Dreamliners, its largest ever purchase of Boeing widebody aircraft, comprised of 35 787-9 models, 15 of the larger 787-10 model and options for 25 787 Dreamliners; deliveries are scheduled between 2029 and 2034.

Negotiations are ongoing with Rolls-Royce (OTCPK:RYCEY) (OTCPK:RYCEF) and GE Aerospace (GE) regarding engines, spare engines and engine maintenance services for the planes, the airline said.

Boeing (BA) also said Turkish Airlines plans to buy up to 150 737 MAX aircraft in what would be its largest Boeing single-aisle order; the airline said it is in discussions with engine manufacturer CFM International – the 50/50 joint venture between GE Aerospace (GE) and France’s Safran Aircraft Engines (OTCPK:SAFRF) (OTCPK:SAFRY) – and would place the 737 MAX order if the talks are successful.

The deal has long been in the making, as the airline’s chairman revealed a planned purchase of 225 aircraft a year ago; the latest announcement came after President Trump met Turkey’s President Erdogan in Washington.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but buyers typically receive steep discounts for large aircraft orders.

Also, Boeing (BA) said Norwegian Air Shuttle exercised an option to buy an additional 30 737 MAX 8 aircraft, bringing its total firm order to 80 aircraft in a deal reached in 2022; the airline confirmed the final aircraft delivery is now scheduled for 2031, following adjustments to the delivery timeline.
