Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) backed OpenAI generated ~$4.3 billion in revenue during the first half of 2025, representing a 16% increase compared to last year, The Information reported, citing disclosures to shareholders.
H1 cash burn rate was $2.5 billion, mainly due to research and development expenses, particularly costs related to developing advanced AI models and operating ChatGPT.
The company spent $6.7 billion on research and development during the period and had almost $17.5 billion in cash and securities at the end of the period.
The ChatGPT maker aims to reach its FY revenue goal of $13 billion and $8.5 billion in cash-burn rate, the report added.
OpenAI did not immediately respond to Seeking Alpha’s request for a comment.
