General Motors’ Q3 sales up 8% as consumers rush to cash in on EV tax credit

  • General Motors (NYSE:GM) sold 710,347 vehicles in the third quarter, an increase of 8% year-over-year on solid gains for both electric and gas-powered vehicles.
  • For the calendar year to date, deliveries reached 2.2M, raising GM’s (NYSE:GM) market share to 17.2%.
  • By banner, Cadillac took the top spot with a 25% increase in sales for the quarter, followed by +8.7% for Chevrolet and +8.6% for GMC. Despite significant sales growth for its Enclave, Buick sales were down 14.0% in Q3 as a result of steep drop in sales for the Encore GX and Envision.
  • By propulsion, EV sales set another record at 66,501 (+107%) with consumers rushing to take advantage of the now-expired $7,500 government tax credit. Among its gas-powered vehicles, the company’s crossovers and SUVs set a new record, led by best-so-far sales of the GMC Terrain, Chevy Equinox, Chevy Traverse, and Buick Envista.
