PC market sees strong Q3 growth amid Windows 10 transition, says Omdia

Global shipments of desktops, notebooks, and workstations grew 6.8% year-over-year to 72M units in Q3 2025, according to the latest Omdia research. The uptick is driven by a wave of upgrade activity ahead of Microsoft’s Windows 10 end-of-support deadline on October 14.

Notebook shipments, including mobile workstations, rose 4% to 57.2 million units, while desktop shipments (including desktop workstations) surged 17% to 15.2 million units.

Top 5 PC Vendors – Q3 2025

  • Lenovo (OTCPK:LNVGY) retained its lead in the global PC market, shipping approximately 19.4 million units, marking a 17% year-over-year increase.
  • HP (NYSE:HPQ) secured second place with 15 million units shipped, achieving 11% growth from the previous year.
  • Dell (NYSE:DELL) ranked third, showing modest annual growth of around 3%, supported by ongoing refresh demand.
  • Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) held fourth place, recording 4.3% growth and surpassing the 6-million unit mark for the fifth consecutive quarter.
  • Asus (OTCPK:ASUUY) rounded out the top five with 5.8 million units shipped, up 7% year-on-year.

Omdia Research Director Ishan Dutt noted that “business and consumer demand for PC upgrades continues to be healthy,” with many users still on older systems or running Windows 10.

Despite strong marketing efforts, a recent Omdia poll of 453 channel partners revealed only 39% have upgraded nearly all customer PCs, while 18% plan to remain on Windows 10 post-deadline—likely opting for Microsoft’s (MSFT) extended security updates.

As upgrade demand extends into Q4 and beyond, chipmakers and OEMs are gearing up with new products. Qualcomm (QCOM) launched the Snapdragon X2 Elite chipset, and Intel (INTC) announced its next-gen Panther Lake Core Ultra processors.

Omdia predicts that CES 2026 will showcase the next wave of AI-enabled PCs.
