Two Indian refiners have bought 4 million barrels of Guyanese crude oil from U.S. major Exxon Mobil (NYSE:XOM) to be delivered at the end of 2025 or in early 2026, in their first imports from the South American producer, Reuters reported.
Indian Oil Corp., the country’s largest refiner by capacity, has bought 2 million barrels of Golden Arrowhead crude, which will arrive in late December or in early January, the report said.
Another refiner, Hindustan Petroleum, has bought 2 million barrels of Liza and Unity Gold crude as well for delivery during the same period, the sources said.
Elsewhere, a White House official told Reuters on Thursday that the United States and India have held productive trade talks, and Indian refiners are already cutting Russian oil imports by 50%.
While the cut was not visible yet, though it could be reflected in import numbers for December or January, the report said.
