Sunday – October 19

Monday – October 20

  • Volatility watch – Reddit (RDDT) and Biohaven (BHVN) are set up for a volatile week of trading based on options volume. The most overbought stocks per their 14-day relative strength index include Investview (OTCQB:INVU), Praxis Precision (PRAX), and Vine Hill Capital Investment (VCIC). The most oversold stocks per their 14-day Relative Strength Index include Jin Medical (ZJYL), Graphic Packaging (GPK), and Tvardi Therapeutics (TVRD). Hertz Global (HTZ) and SoundHound AI (SOUN) head into the week with a high level of short interest outstanding.
  • Politics watch – The government shutdown and uncertainty around the U.S.-China trade negotiations will take center stage once again.
  • IPO watch – The IPO is slowing down due to the impact of the government shutdown, with no new debuts expected in the week ahead. The analyst quiet period expires on Knorex (KNRX) to free up analysts to post ratings.
  • Dividend watch – Companies that have an ex-dividend date coming next week include Caterpillar (CAT), Dell Technologies (DELL), CVS Health (CVS), and Procter & Gamble (PG).
  • Earnings watch – Notable companies due to report include W.R. Berkley (WRB), Steel Dynamics (STLD), and Crown Holdings (CCK).
  • All day – China’s Communist Party will hold the Fourth Plenum to review the party’s five-year plan.
  • All day – It is the FDA action date for Glaukos Corporation’s (GKOS) Epioxa (Epi-on), a corneal cross-linking therapy for keratoconus.
  • All day – The UK CMA Phase 1 review of Getty Images’s (GETY) planned acquisition of Shutterstock (SSTK) expires.

Tuesday – October 21

  • Earnings watch – Notable companies due to report include Netflix (NFLX), GE Aerospace (GE), Coca-Cola (KO), General Motors (GM), Philip Morris (PM) Lockheed Martin (LMT), Mattel (MAT), Texas Instruments (TXN), and Capital One (COF). Options trading implies a double-digit move for Galaxy Digital (GLXY) and Elevance Health (ELV) after they report.
  • All day – Samsung Galaxy (OTCPK:SSNLF) will hold its Worlds Wide Open media event. The company is expected to reveal its new XR headset, known internally as Project Moohan.
  • All day – Robinhood Markets (HOOD) CEO Vlad Tenev is one of the notable speakers scheduled for the TED AI Conference in San Francisco. Executives from Oracle (ORCL), HPE, and eBay (EBAY) will also participate.
  • All day – Disney (DIS) will raise the prices of its Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN streaming services. The new pricing affects both standalone and bundled plans across the United States.
  • All day – WTI crude November futures will expire. Crude oil futures have seen extra volatility over the last year on contract expiration dates.
  • All day – Shareholders with MeridianLink (MLNK) vote on the takeover offer from Centerbridge.
  • 9:00 a.m. Federal Reserve Board Governor Christopher Waller will give opening remarks before the Federal Reserve Board Payments Innovation Conference.
  • 9:00 a.m. Philip Morris (PM) will hold its earnings call. Supplier Universal Corp (UVV) derives 16% of its revenue from Philip Morris and trades in tandem with it 88% of the time on earnings day.

Wednesday – October 22

  • Earnings watch – Notable companies due to report include Tesla (TSLA), AT&T (T), IBM (IBM), Lam Research (LRCX), Boston Scientific (BSX), Las Vegas Sands (LVS), and Hilton Worldwide (HLT). Options trading implies a double-digit move for QuantumScape (QS) and Winnebago (WGO) after they report.
  • All day – Shareholders with Cenovus Energy (CVE) and MEG Energy (OTCPK:MEGEF) vote on the proposed merger between the companies.
  • All day – The AACR-NCI-EORTC International Conference on Molecular Targets and Cancer Therapeutics will begin. The highly watched annual conference has the primary goals of fostering international collaboration, accelerating the exchange of innovative research, presenting the latest in drug development, and updating early-stage cancer clinical trials. Some of the notable companies participating include Xencor (XNCR), Nuvalent (NUVL), and Zentalis Pharmaceuticals (ZNTL).
  • All day – Construction Partners (ROAD) will host an in-person Analyst Day and hot-mix asphalt facility tour with financial analysts and institutional investors.
  • 5:30 p.m. Tesla (TSLA) will hold its earnings call. Elon Musk’s update on the robotaxi service rollout could have implications for Waymo (WAYMO) and Uber Technologies (UBER). Options trading implies a share price swing of more than 8% after the report is released.

Thursday – October 23

  • Earnings watch – Notable companies due to report include T-Mobile (TMUS), Intel (INTC), Union Pacific (UNP), Honeywell (HON), and Ford Motor (F). Options trading implies a double-digit share price move for Alaska Air (ALK) and Deckers Outdoor (DECK) after they report.
  • All day – It is the FDA action date for GSK’s (GSK) Belantamab mafodotin (Blenrep) in relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma.
  • All day – The World Coffee Innovation Summit in London will take place. Starbucks (SBUX), Lavazza, and JDE Peet’s are some of the notable companies participating.
  • 10:00 a.m. The Existing Home Sales report will be released by the National Association of Realtors.

Friday – October 24

  • Earnings watch – Notable companies due to report include Procter & Gamble (PG), General Dynamics (GD), and HCA Healthcare (HCA).
  • All day – A flurry of economic reports are expected to be released, including the September CPI report, PMI data, the new home sales report, and the University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment update.
