The NBA returns to NBC as part of a massive $76B media deal

The 2025–26 NBA season debuted on Tuesday night with two games broadcast nationally on NBC and on the Peacock streaming network. The NBCUniversal (NASDAQ:CMCSA) properties secured rights for the NBA under a record-setting 11-year, roughly $76 billion media rights agreement that reshapes the league’s broadcasting landscape until the end of the year 2035-2036 season.

The new NBC-Peacock deal replaces Warner Bros. Discovery’s (WBD) TNT after nearly 40 years, marking the return of NBC and the debut of Amazon (AMZN) Prime Video alongside long-time partner Disney’s (DIS) ESPN and ABC.

For its part, NBC will broadcast up to 100 regular-season games and stream additional contests on Peacock, including exclusive Monday night matchups and its first NBA All-Star Weekend coverage in more than two decades. The network’s Spanish-language sibling, Telemundo, will air select Sunday night games. NBC revised its iconic 1990s “Roundball Rock” theme and has Michael Jordan joining its coverage team as a special contributor. MJ’s new on-air role centers on a recurring feature titled “MJ: Insights to Excellence.”
