Walmart has paused job offers to candidates requiring H-1B visas, people familiar with the matter told Bloomberg, with the move primarily impacting corporate employees.
The pause follows the Trump administration imposing a $100,000 fee for new H-1B visa applications.
Walmart (NYSE:WMT) is the largest user of these visas among major retailers, employing around 2,390 H-1B holders, according to government data. The retail giant’s total U.S. workforce is about 1.6M.
“Walmart is committed to hiring and investing in the best talent to serve our customers, while remaining thoughtful about our H-1B hiring approach,” a company spokesperson said.
Separately, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services on Tuesday clarified that the $100,000 fee applies to new H-1B visa petitions filed on or after September 21. The new fee does not apply to previously issued and currently valid H-1B visas.
