Humain, an artificial intelligence startup based in Saudi Arabia, hopes to change the way users interact with computers as it prepares to launch an AI-based operating system that follows vocal commands, according to Reuters.
The company, which was established earlier this year by the nation’s sovereign wealth fund, the Public Investment Fund, has already acquired key partnerships with Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) and Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ:AMD) for the processing power necessary to power its buildout of data center capacity.
Humain’s new operating system is expected to be released as soon as this week, according to the report.
“Rather than looking at icons where you click for discrete applications, now you (…) speak your intent,” CEO Tareq Amin said at the Fortune Global Forum in Riyadh, the report noted.
Humain is also in the process of building out up to 6 gigawatts of data center capacity. It has a $5B investment deal with Amazon Web Services (AMZN) to create an “AI Zone.”
Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) Windows has long dominated the operating system market, holding about a 70% share for desktops, followed by Apple’s macOS and Linux. In the smartphone market, Google’s (NASDAQ:GOOG)(NASDAQ:GOOGL) Android controls the lion’s share of the market, roughly 45%, followed by Apple’s iOS.
