Today is Sports Equinox Day – the only day of the year the NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB all have games

October 27 is the only day of the year that all four major professional sports have games scheduled, headlined by game three of the World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays. Notably, there have only been 32 sports equinoxes since 1971, as not every year does the calendar fall such that the four leagues all play on the same day.

Of course, that means a busy day for sports betting operators such as DraftKings (NASDAQ:DKNG), FanDuel (NYSE:FLUT), BetMGM (MGM) (OTCPK:GMVHF), and Caesars Sportsbook (CZR), as well as the prediction market platforms such as Kalshi (KALSHI) and Polymarket (POLYMARKET).

Sports Equinox Day arrives at an interesting time for the sports betting and prediction markets industries, as lawsuits, new regulatory oversight, pro-gaming legislation, and a major betting scandal in the NBA have all cropped up to send mixed signals to investors.
