Gannett (GCI) said on Thursday it has struck an AI licensing pact with Microsoft (MSFT). The partnership comes ahead of the software and cloud giant’s launch of Publisher Content Marketplace.
The financial terms of the deal between the two were not disclosed.
In September, Axios reported that Microsoft is in talks with select U.S. publishers about a pilot program to help launch a two-sided marketplace that would compensate publishers for their content used by AI products.
The Axios report had mentioned that Microsoft’s Copilot assistant will serve as the first AI buyer within the marketplace for publishers to sell their content. The tech giant is also looking to grow the marketplace’s demand-side offering to include other AI products.
