Global semiconductor sales jump 25% during September due to uptick in Asia and Americas

Global semiconductor conductor sales increased 25% year over year in September, due primarily to a boost in Asia and the Americas, according to data from the Semiconductor Industry Association.

September was a particularly strong month for semiconductor sales. Year-over-year sales increased 48% in the Asia Pacific region, 30.6% in the Americas and 15% in China. However, sales only ticked up 6% in Europe and dropped 10% in Japan. Global semiconductor sales totaled $69.5B during the month, which was a 25% year-over-year gain.

“Global chip sales continued to grow in the third quarter of this year, significantly outpacing sales from Q2,” said SIA CEO John Neuffer. “Market growth was driven by increased demand across a range of semiconductor products, including memory and logic. And year-to-year growth was fueled by sales into the Asia Pacific region and the Americas.”

Most major semiconductor stocks were down during Tuesday market action. Nvidia (NVDA) had declined 2.8%, Intel (INTC) had dropped 4.6% and AMD (AMD) had slipped 1.6%.

Micron (MU) was down 4.4% and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSM) had edged 1.7% lower. Skyworks Solutions (SWKS) had dropped 5% and Marvell (MRVL) had inched down 0.7%.
