Eddy Cue, Apple’s (AAPL) senior vice president of Services, has tampered down expectations that the tech giant could launch an ad-supported version of its Apple TV streaming service, Screen Daily reported.
“Nothing at this time,” Cue said in response to a question about bringing ads to Apple TV. “Again, I don’t want to say no forever, but there are no plans. If we can stay aggressive with our pricing, it’s better for consumers not to get interrupted with ads.”
Apple TV currently costs $12.99 per month or $99 per year. It is also available in select versions of its Apple One subscription plan.
Cue also addressed how many subscribers Apple TV has and while he did not disclose the number, he did add the service has “more viewers, and they have more viewing hours in this past year than we’ve had at any time.” Last month, Cue told Puck News that Apple TV had “significantly” more than 45M subscribers.
