Ford (F) franchised dealerships will now be able to sell used vehicles on Amazon (AMZN) with 12 dealerships already listing their inventory of certified pre-owned vehicles on the Amazon Autos marketplace.
Car buyers can now shop, finance, and purchase a vehicle through the Amazon platform with in-person pickup at a local Ford (F) dealership. Currently, Ford’s (F) vehicles on Amazon Autos will only be available in Los Angeles, Seattle, and Dallas with more markets to be added soon.
“The addition of Ford certified pre-owned vehicles to Amazon Autos represents an exciting expansion of our store, giving customers access to thousands of quality vehicles backed by Ford’s comprehensive inspection and warranty programs,” said Fan Jin, global leader of Amazon Autos.
Ford (F) becomes the second automaker to offer vehicles on the Amazon platform after South Korea’s Hyundai agreed to list new vehicles with participating dealerships in 48 cities. Hertz’s (HTZ) pre-owned vehicles are also listed on the website.
Ford dealerships will set the price, maintain service, and schedule deliveries, with Amazon (AMZN) acting as the conduit to facilitate browsing and sales.
With car buyers now given yet another option to avoid in-person car shopping, the news is weighing on dealership including CarMax (KMX), Carvana (CVNA), Sonic Automotive (SAH), Lithia Motors (LAD), Asbury Automotive (ABG), Cargurus (CARG), and OPENLANE (KAR).
