- Microsoft (MSFT) and Nvidia (NVDA) plan to invest $15 billion in AI developer Anthropic (ANTHRO), developer of the Claude chatbot.
Under the deal, Microsoft will invest $5 billion while Nvidia will contribute $10 billion. Anthropic has also committed to buying $30 billion in Microsoft Azure compute capacity and contracting up to one gigawatt in additional capacity, according to a Microsoft blog post.
“This is a dream come true for us,” Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said in a video, according to CNBC. “You know, we’ve admired the work of Anthropic and [Anthropic CEO] Dario [Amodei] for a long time, and this is the first time we are going to deeply partner with Anthropic to accelerate Claude.”
The investment should push Anthropic’s valuation up to around $350 billion, CNBC said.
Microsoft is also a major investor in Anthropic rival OpenAI (OPENAI), the developer of ChatGPT.
- JP Morgan (JPM) Vice Chairman Daniel Pinto believes the AI sector is probably due for a correction that could ripple into the broader market.
“There is probably a correction there,” Pinto said at a Bloomberg event on Tuesday. “That correction will also create a correction in the rest of the segment, the S&P (SP500) (SPY) and in the industry.”
- Alphabet’s (GOOG) (GOOGL) Waymo said it plans to make its robotaxi service available for riders in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Miami, and Orlando next year.
The company plans to start operations in Miami this week and in the additional four cities “over the coming weeks,” Waymo said in a blog post.
“Waymo has entered a new phase of commercial scale, doubling the number of cities we operate in without a human specialist in the car,” Waymo Chief Product Officer Saswat Panigrahi told CNBC on Tuesday.
Earlier Tuesday, Amazon’s Zoox announced it has launched its robotaxi service in San Francisco, a region where Waymo has been steadily expanding its presence.
Other companies developing robotaxi services include Tesla (TSLA), Pony AI (PONY), Baidu (BIDU), Uber (UBER), and Lyft (LYFT).
